Here for sale are a range of drawings from all parts of my career as a figurative artist. Drawing is the basis of any artist’s work who, like me, wants to recreate the visual world and make credible what we see as beautiful and meaningful representations of it. The word “drawing" covers a lot as an act, an object, a metaphor, a discovery and part of a process.

Much of what I do is for my own enjoyment. I draw from life at least twice a week as manual practice and to develop ways of depicting form - the roundness of things and the way they sit in space. Drawing as a way of looking reveals all sorts of beauty unseen otherwise and the end result is a credible representation of that discovery.

Also, as part of the process of making a finished painting, the early stages require designing and assembling figures, composition, atmosphere and many other aspects which contribute to the final result. Most of this is best done on paper.

This has left, over many years, a large number of drawings I have been encouraged to put on sale on this website.

I’ve had a long and, if I may say so, a pretty successful career as a professional artist with work in many prestigious collections. I am a strong believer in, and advocate for. the Western Figurative Tradition of painting which goes back to Renaissance times and by the changes in which we can assess the changes in our humanity and ideas of beauty. This tradition, I believe is under threat from a number of sources, from the art market and AI for example and many of the skills and endeavours are no longer pursued in academic institutions. But there are still many, including younger people, who value them.
